New indie machine

Yeah I got a new guitar. It was 80 Euro used, and I couldn’t say no.

It’s a Squier Sonic Mustang in color “Torino Red” and I am thinking of improving on an already good instrumen (recently I took a luthier’s 1:1 course so I’m all hyped up); I could do things like:

  • change the pickguard (cream or black, I’m still thinking about it), or maybe just make the pickup covers white, which would also be cool
  • level the frets, so the fretboard is nicer to play and the strings can be lowered
  • shield the internals, so the guitar is less noisy
  • replace the volume and tone pots
  • change the pickups, if I wish – although they sound good

I’ll see what to do, surely the first step is to make the fretboard perfect.

This Squier Sonic Mustang, it sounds different from my (6x more expensive!) other Fender Mustang 90: the smaller pickups (the other has p90s) give it a more indie sound, a bit thinner, while the Mustang 90 is better for heavier stuff. It’s more of an indie machine (think of Nirvana I guess). And when you play it, you can really feel it. Indie stuff just comes out of your hands flowing.

I thought I would use it just to play around with luthier things, but in the end I’m really loving it, and in the long run it will become just perfect.

I also think I’ll start posting my little demo songs here on the blog, just for fun, under Creative Commons.

So to start this tradition, today I recorded a little demo I called “Pavimento” (drum loops by https://jimdooley.net), I’ll keep working on it, but this is how it sounds.

Ciao!
